History: The University of Southampton's School of Management, as it is known today, was formed in 1997. It gained AMBA-accreditation in 2005.
Address: The school is based at the university's Highfield campus, a mile and a half from the city centre. Southampton has a rich maritime history – America's Pilgrim Fathers set sail from here in the 16th century. Now the town welcomes more than 2,000 international students from 100 different countries.
Ambience: There's a fantastic campus, with a refurbished students' union, a 25m swimming pool, a £7m sports complex and several arts centres. There's also lots of open green spaces and fresh sea air to enjoy.
Vital statistics: The school has more than 50 full-time academic staff and around 550 postgraduate students, including 100 on the MBA. The full-time MBA takes up to 50 students a year and lasts 12 months. The part-time MBA, only for those with at least five years' managerial experience, runs for two to three years.
Added value: The MBA offers opportunities for students to specialise in risk management, consultancy, entrepreneurship and higher education management.
Easy to get into? You'll need a good degree or equivalent overseas or professional qualification. For the full-time MBA, at least three years of post-qualification work experience is required.

Gurus: Professors Steve Ward, risk management; Johnnie Johnson, decision and risk analysis; Lyn Thomas, management science; and Douglas Macbeth, purchasing and supply chain management.
International connections: The school's postgraduate students represent more than 30 nationalities between them, and around 85 per cent of the full-time MBA students are from outside the UK.
Student profile: The average age on the full-time MBA is 28, and on the part-time option 36. The male to female ratio is 60:40.
Cost: It's £18,000 for the full-time MBA, and the same price for the part-time option, which is paid over two years.
Who's the boss? Professor Terry Williams, whose speciality is management science.
