Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

In the second part of our calendar we've covered some essential events taking place between July and September to put in your diary. Graduate fairs, football, Clearing and carnivals: they're all covered. You can get even more monthly updates by looking at our online student calendar; the website address is below. Have a great summer!

July

1 - Smoking ban enforced in England: Smoking is banned from all public buildings today, including bars, restaurants and offices. And about time too!

7-8 - Wimbledon finals: Sit back and enjoy the strawberries while the pros sweat it out in the final weekend. Don't expect to see Tim Henman unless he's sat in the crowd eating strawberries too, but could it be Andy Murray's chance to shine?

13-15 - Latitude: Arcade Fire, The Magic Numbers and Damien Rice will be performing at this music festival in Suffolk, and tickets are still available at the time of going to press. Visit www.virtualfestivals.com to get the lowdown on other UK festivals.

24 - Mini graduate recruitment fair: This one is taking place in Leeds; for a full list of similar events happening around the country; visit the careers fairs section on the Prospects website: www.prospects.ac.uk.

August

5 - Edinburgh Fringe Festival: The three-week festivities get under way in Scotland's capital. Visit www.edinburgh-festivals.com/fringe to get a programme and book tickets.

11 - Opening day of the Premiership: Will Manchester United retain the Premiership crown? They start at home to Reading, while last year's runners-up, Chelsea, play host to Birmingham City.

16 -Results day: The long wait is over: A- and AS-level results will be published today and Clearing begins. Good luck!

26-27 - Notting Hill Carnival: Get ready to party in west London with floats galore and the famous steel band competition. Visit www.nottinghillcarnival.org.uk for more details.

September

9 - Grandparents' Day: Yep, it's time to get on the phone, send out those cards and show them that you care.

20 - Deadline for university offers: Decisions, decisions, decisions. Last date for receipt of applications for 2007 entry. Log on to www.ucas.com to find out more.

21 - International Day of Peace: A host of events are being organised in all 192 member states of the United Nations. Visit www.peaceoneday.org to get involved.

30 - Great North Run: If you fancy running 13 miles around Newcastle then look no further; visit http://gnr.realbuzz.com to find out what charities still have places up for grabs.
