Management: 850 teams compete for trophy
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.THE BUSINESS management competition being organised by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants in association with the Independent and Sharp, the electronics group, has attracted 850 registered teams, writes Roger Trapp.
They have until 4 November to submit their reports. The aim is to put charities in touch with young people who want to contribute their ideas and enthusiasm towards changing the world.
Teams will study the case of a fictitious charity called One World. They will adopt the role of a fund-raising manager, plan a campaign and prepare a report.
But then fiction turns to reality because Cima will pass on the teams' ideas to suitable charities.
The reports will be judged by a panel including Rosemary Thorne, finance director of the supermarkets group J Sainsbury, Alec Reed, chairman of Reed Executive recruitment consultancy, and Susan Sheard, director of the BLP Consultancy.
The winners, to be announced on 5 December, will receive a trophy and pounds 1,000 worth of Sharp desktop business products for their school or college plus personal organisers, certificates and commemorative silver rulers. Nine regional winners will also receive prizes.
