From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. “I’m a serious Game of Thrones fanatic now and I can’t think of a series in the past few years that’s had quite as many shocks, action and intrigue as this one.

Season Five is simply the best of the lot and I know it’s wrong but I’ve watched episode eight [Hardhome] three times.

I mean, the production values are through the roof for that episode and I whooped quite a lot when Jon Snow dispatched the White Walker with his Valyrian-steel sword. The bit when the murdered wildlings are reanimated zombie-style was pretty wild too; zombies were the only thing missing from Game of Thrones until now.

Now, I’m no fan of Cersei Lannister – who could be? – but even I felt sympathy for her when she has to walk naked through the Red Keep in the last episode (Mother’s Mercy) and Lena Headey (and her body double) is brilliant and ridiculously brave doing this scene. I reckon Cersei is going to dish out some heavy-duty revenge on that High Sparrow [Jonathan Pryce]. Watch out for The Mountain.

In Season Five, it comes across really strongly that the makers of Game of Thrones are supremely confident creating the action scenes, especially the battles, in this savage world. And the actors (those still standing) have really grown into their roles, with Maisie Williams and Kit Harrington really standing out as Arya Stark and Jon Snow respectively. I’d argue these two are the biggest heroes of all in Game of Thrones.

But what on earth is going to happen to Jon Snow? I thought the Red Wedding and Ned Stark’s death were shocking, but the end of Season Five really was something else. I’m still reeling from it and desperate to find out what’s happened to the bravest member of the Night’s Watch.

I’m also keen to see what’s happened to Sansa Stark. She’s easily been one of the most frustrating characters in Game of Thrones, but she’s starting to show some backbone now and she really needs to get away from Ramsay Bolton. No character in Game of Thrones makes my skin crawl like he does. What a horror.

It’s beautifully set up for Season Six, with Daenerys surrounded, Arya in deep trouble, Sansa on the run and the Red Witch looming in the background. And what’s going to become of Tyrion Lannister? Surely he won’t be the one to seize the Iron Throne? I really can’t wait to find out...”
