Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

at the second day of the Chinese National Championships in Peking yesterday.
The 18-year-old high school student from Guangdong Province cleared 4.08 metres to beat the 4.07m Cai Weiyuan vaulted at Heifei earlier this month. Sun Caiyun, who jumped a world best 4.06m in March, also cleared 4.08m, but at her second attempt, to take silver.
On the track, the former Ma's Army runner Wang Junxia performed poorly by her own standards. The world record holder at 3,000m and 10,000m, who walked out on the coach Ma Junren earlier this year, won the 5,000m in 15min 39.18sec, 62sec slower than the Norwegian Inrgid Kristiansen's world mark.
"I am not satisfied with the results," the 22-year-old world 10,000m champion said. "But I am sure I will make a strong comeback to win the gold medal at the World Championships this August."
