From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The recent friendly match between Portugal and Spain ended in a 4-0 thrashing of the World Cup holders, but the Portuguese captain wasn't to know that when, still deadlocked, his fine goal was controversially ruled offside, and became the most viewed sports clip on YouTube for the week ending November 16.

Bombing into space on the left, he shook off club rival Pique and, just outside the 6-yard box, he lobbed Casillas only for winger Nani to well and truly bury it, drawing the linesman's flag in the process.

That clip appears three times in this week's YouTube sports chart, as does another altogether more comical attempt on goal - this time from the Asian Games' last 16, in a match between the Uzbek and Qatari teams.

Scottish street rider Danny MacAskill accrued nearly 22 million views of his "Inspired Bicycles" video since April '09 and here traces a scenic and stunt-laden route from Edinburgh to the Isle of Skye, notching 2 million hits since November 16.

In other videos, Real Madrid keeper Casillas appears once more, showing why he's one of the world's best with an instinctive-reaction save that catches an object thrown from the crowd; David Haye knocks out Audley Harrison in the third round; F1 driver Alonso conveys his frustration at fellow driver Petrov, who ended his chances of winning the 2010 season.
