Yorkshire look to Gough
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. An 18,500 sell-out crowd will pack Headingley today to watch Yorkshire take on Northamptonshire in the semi-final of the NatWest Trophy.
Yorkshire, whose last appearance in the final was in 1969, are in a buoyant mood after the two-wicket win over Lancashire in the quarter-finals.
Martyn Moxon, their captain who missed that tight victory because of a broken right thumb, leads a team which includes Darren Gough, despite a foot injury that is keeping him out of first-class cricket.
Northamptonshire are unlikely to be intimidated. Attempting to win their first Championship title, they will be the team of the season if they can lift the NatWest Trophy as well.
Support for Glamorgan at Cardiff in their semi-final against Warwickshire will be equally vociferous, as the Welsh county have yet to win a knock- out trophy and their only appearance in a final was 18 years ago. Warwickshire, on the other hand, were within a match of completing the hat-trick of titles last season, losing the NatWest final to Worcestershire.
Nick Knight, their opening batsman who suffered a head injury during the fifth Test, is expected to declare himself fit.
