Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The Welsh National may be re-routed to Newbury on Saturday for a second successive season as Chepstow's meeting today, along with those at Wetherby, Leicester and Edinburgh joined the casualty list. Rob Hartnett, spokesman for the race's sponsor, Coral, said: "We're not going to do anything today but will begin to look at it tomorrow."
Limerick was the only card in Ireland to survive yesterday and the track is hopeful of staging racing again today, although a precautionary inspection has been called for 7am. Yesterday's abandoned card at Leopardstown has been rescheduled for Sunday, but today's meeting is also in doubt, with an inspection taking place at 7am. Today's abandoned meeting at Down Royal has also been re-scheduled, this time for Saturday.
Tomorrow's prospects in Britain look equally as grim with Taunton the only track not calling an inspection, although a course spokesman gave the going as "frozen". Noon inspections today have been arranged at Carlisle and Stratford and at Plumpton at 9.30am.
