WIMBLEDON 99: BETTING
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.RICHARD KRAJICEK is the value bet to win the men's singles at Wimbledon, which gets under way this morning. The No 5 seed figures in easily the softest quarter of the draw and appears to have a clear run through to the quarter-finals, in which he would have every chance of eliminating Andre Agassi, the No 4 seed, before holding equally sound prospects against Pat Rafter in the semi-finals.
Pete Sampras is, of course, the deserved favourite. However, Sampras is undoubtedly in the tougher half of the draw and represents poor value at 6-4 to win seven consecutive games.
Martina Hingis, however, should not be opposed in the women's singles. Hingis, sure to be fired up by her recent defeat at the hands of the aging Steffi Graf in Paris, has the best of the draw and appears to have a clear passage through to the finals, where she could avenge that French defeat by Graf.
