Yorkshire conceded a goal straight away, when Paul Surridge put Kent ahead, but struck back with three goals in 16 minutes. Gary Nash equalised, then Alistair West scored twice.
Kent's keeper, Simon Triggs, kept them in the match with two excellent saves early in the second half and with 16 minutes remaining Kent's David Mathews took advantage of the experimental rules to blast his shot in from outside the circle. Although Kent pressed hard for the equaliser Yorkshire's defence gave little away.
