Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

There was no change at the top of the Super League, with the leaders, St Helens, and second-placed Wigan both out of action yesterday, but Warrington, who also had a day off, dropped from third to sixth as they were overhauled by Sheffield, London and Bradford, who all won.

Three players were sent off for fighting in a five-minute spell during the Eagles' 23-10 victory over Oldham. The Lancashire side's Martin Crompton was ordered off following a 73rd-minute fracas, two minutes later his team-mate Joe Faimalo was sent off and Sheffield's Darren Turner was the third to go in a separate incident two minutes from time.

London continued their storming start with their third away win of the season. Full-back Greg Barwick was the catalyst, scoring a try and kicking three goals, including a drop goal, in a 21-20 victory at Castleford.

Bradford made it a hat-trick of wins by beating Paris 60-32. The former Great Britain player Karl Fairbank touched down twice in the first 10 minutes and by the end the French side had conceded 11 tries and Steve McNamara had kicked eight goals.

Wigan scored 11 tries as they carried too much pace and power for Workington on Saturday. But for home fans, still looking for their team's first victory in the Super League, there were some good moments in the 16-64 defeat, particularly in the second half when the Cumbrians scored two of their three tries.

In the First Division yesterday, Widnes held on to their 100 per cent home record by running in seven tries in a 36-24 victory over Dewsbury and Huddersfield beat Wakefield 38-12.
