From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Australia, the world champions, ran in 11 tries as they crushed Western Samoa by a record score of 73-3 at the Sydney Football Stadium yesterday. The centre Jason Little and the winger Damien Smith each scored two tries, while the winger David Campese scored one and set up several others. The score was Australia's highest in a Test, surpassing their 67-9 win over the United States in Brisbane in 1990. The Wallabies were in explosive form against the Samoans, who had won all four of their warm-up games. The Australian forwards were rampant and set the platform for some exciting running and handling by their backs. 'We were awesome,' said the Australian captain, Phil Kearns. 'I know the Western Samoans have thrilled the crowds in their previous games with the way they have thrown the ball around. I'm glad we didn't allow them to do that tonight.'
