Wakefield, the Courage National League Two team, yesterday completed their second signing from Huddersfield rugby league club with the New Zealander Darrall Shelford. The 34-year-old centre will make his debut alongside his Huddersfield team-mate, the Australian Dean Hanger in Saturday's first home League match of the season against London Scottish.

Audley Lumsden, the former Bath full-back, has signed a one-year contract with Gloucester.

Rocco Pedder, the Western Transvaal prop, has been suspended for the maximum period of two years after failing a drugs test. The South African Rugby Football Union declined to name the banned substance involved.
