Your support makes all the difference.New York Mets shortstop Wilmer Flores was spotted crying on the pitch as rumours filtered through that he was going to be traded to the Milwaukee Brewers during the 7-3 defeat to the San Diego Padres.
Wednesday's clash between the MLB rivals was already a dramatic affair before the suggestion that Flores was set to be replaced by All-Star outfielder Carlos Gomez.
A teary-eyed Flores was then given a standing ovation as he came up to bat, prompting him to cry on the pitch in front of millions of viewers on television.
in a surreal twist, the rumours then proved to be premature as Mets manager Sandy Alderson later told reporters that 'social media got ahead of the facts'.
According to reports in the US, the deal fell apart in the final stages which would appear to explain why Flores was allowed to remain on the pitch as departing players are usually pulled immediately.
Despite what Tom Hanks has to say about it in the 1992 cult film A League of Their Own, it turns out there is crying in baseball after all.
