On Sunday, 20 members of the football team, including quarterback Patrick Mahomes, were waiting to have their hair cut when the barber’s rapid test results came in, sources told ESPN reporter Adam Schefter.
At the time, the barber was working on backup center Daniel Kilgore, with Schefter initially reporting that the stylist was removed mid-haircut.
Following reports that the barber exited while in the middle of Kilgore’s haircut, the Chiefs player jokingly tweeted a photo of himself with half his head shaved.
“#NewProfilePic,” he captioned the photo.
However, the outlet has since reported that, because Kilgore and the barber, who is currently unidentified, were wearing masks, the NFL player told him to first finish the haircut.
On Monday, the Chiefs, who are set to play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV on Sunday, placed Kilgore and wide receiver Demarcus Robinson, who also reportedly came in contact with the barber, on the reserve/Covid-19 list, according to ESPN.
Kilgore and Robinson are currently in an NFL-mandated five-day isolation period, with neither player practising with the team this week.
However, both players will be able to participate in the Super Bowl this weekend if they test negative for five consecutive days, ESPN reports.
Prior to the haircuts, the barber reportedly took five Covid-19 tests, all of which had come back negative.
Super Bowl LV is expected to look vastly different from previous years, with the NFL reporting that Raymond James Stadium, which seats 75,000, will only seat 25,000 fans, many of who will be vaccinated healthcare workers.
In addition to the fans, who will be spaced out, the stadium will also be filled with 30,000 cutouts, according to the NFL.
