From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Conor McGregor has made the weight for his fight with Floyd Mayweather, weighing in at 153-pounds on Friday, comfortably below the 154-pound weight limit.

Mayweather meanwhile weighed in at a very trim 149.5-pounds, meaning he will be considerably smaller than McGregor in the ring, with the Irishman also boasting a height and reach advantage over his rival.

The two men weighed in before a raucous crowd at the T-Mobile Arena, which will also host their super-welterweight clash on Saturday night.

The crowd included thousands of McGregor’s Irish fans, who sang loudly throughout and booed Mayweather when he appeared on stage.

McGregor immediately pledged that he would weigh closer to 170-pounds in the ring on Saturday night, but Mayweather said he was unconcerned by the threat.

“Weight doesn’t win fights, fighting wins fights,” he said, to jeers from the crowd.

Tickets were free for the event, and fans got a show from hip-hop star YG beforehand.
