From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Conor McGregor vs Gregor 'The Mountain' Clegane - it sounds like something from the imagination of the makers of Street Fighter. But this match up has actually happened.

McGregor, arguably the most exciting fighter in UFC, against Hafthor Julius Bjornsson, the strongman who plays the terrifying character in mega-series Game of Thrones.

The pair came together not for an actual fight, but to spar ahead of McGregor's UFC featherweight title fight in December.

Had they been fighting for real, it would have been something of a mismatch. Bjornsson, who as well as starring in Game of Thrones came second in last year's World's Strongest Man competition, stands at nearly seven feet tall and weighs more than 28 stone. McGregor in comparison is a foot shorter and weighs just over 10 stone.

The pair met at Straight Blast Gym in Dublin where McGregor is preparing for his fight with Jose Aldo, which will take place in Las Vegas.

It's not clear if McGregor is a fan of Game of Thrones, but if he had seen what happened to Oberyn Martell, the last man to take on 'The Mountain', he might have opted not to get involved.
