Khabib Nurmagomedov stunned the mixed martial arts world in the early hours of Sunday morning by submitting Conor McGregor in the fourth round of their eagerly anticipated UFC lightweight title fight.

The stunning victory means that Nurmagomedov both preserves his perfect professional record and defends his lightweight crown.

The Russian dominated the first round and dropped McGregor in the second with a huge overhand right, before again taking the fight to the ground. The third was a similarly dominant affair before the dramatic ending, which came in the fourth. Police were then forced to intervene when Khabib vaulted over the Octagon and attacked McGregor's team.

Watch the moment when Nurmagomedov secured his dramatic submission below.

Nurmagomedov will likely next fight Tony Ferguson in his second defence as the UFC’s lightweight champion.

McGregor’s career now appears at a crossroads, just days after he signed a new six-fight deal with the promotion.
