Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

In the scenic and historic setting of Ironbridge, a European heritage town, tomorrow, 500 athletes will contest the British middle distance championships and, for the pros, the sixth round of the International Professional Tour. From a noon start, the competitors take to the River Severn for the 2.5km swim that will take them upstream to a buoy for the return to Ironbridge. The cycle ride follows, a two-lap circuit totalling 90km and passing through Wrekin, Much Wenlock, Bridgnorth before heading to Ironbridge. The final leg, a 21km run, takes the field over a three-lap circuit that goes downstream from Ironbridge to Coalport, where the Severn is crossed. The course then follows the river upstream to the finish on the north bank of the famous Iron Bridge.

Where to watch: Ironbridge is four miles south of Telford, Shropshire, which is easily reached from M54 and M6. The triathlon starts at noon and the first elite athlete is expected at 4.30pm, with the bulk of the field finishing up to 7.30pm. The firework display is at 10pm.
