Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Transatlantic move for Woods
Chris Woods, the former England goalkeeper, has signed a two-year contract with the American Major League Soccer club Colorado Rapids. Woods, a member of England's World Cup squad in 1986 and 1990, spent the last five seasons with Sheffield Wednesday, and played for five seasons with Norwich in the First Division. In five seasons with Rangers he won four Scottish League championship medals. The 36-year-old keeper practised with his new team for the first time on Friday, and was expected to make his debut for the club against Tampa Bay Mutiny yesterday. Woods said that he was looking forward to the new challenge. "It's something that has always appealed to me, to play in America," he said. Borussia Dortmund successfully defended their German first division title yesterday when they drew 2- 2 at 1860 Munich to take an unassailable four-point lead over their nearest rivals, Bayern Munich, who lost at Schalke.
