Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

London Towers are building up their silver collection. After winning their first title in January's League Trophy final, they added the National Cup last night by beating the holders Sheffield Sharks 70-58 at Sheffield Arena.

Steve Bucknall, despite suffering from food poisoning, was the catalyst in London's win, which hinged on outscoring Sheffield 18-2 either side of half-time. It is hard to see Sheffield recovering to dislodge London from the top of the table when the league resumes next weekend.

Sheffield lacked London's balance and apart from Roger Huggins, who scored 14 first-half points, only two other players scored a single field basket each before the interval. On the restart, Sheffield's hopes were immediately quashed as Martin Henlan, Tony Windless and Bucknall's three-pointer gave London their biggest lead of 19 points.

The National League's First Division champions, Crystal Palace, defended their National Trophy title with a 64-51 win over Coventry Crusaders - their 50th consecutive victory against National League opposition.
