From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Celtic's hopes of staging a Uefa Cup comeback disappeared after they were reduced to nine men in a torrid first half in Hamburg last night.
Tommy Burns, their manager, was involved in a confrontation with the referee, Viktor Schuk, as the players left the pitch at half-time after the dismissal of Malky Mackay and John Hughes. Both were sent off for receiving two cautions as the first round second leg turned ugly.
Mackay was booked after five minutes for bringing down Markus Schopp. In the 13th minute, Celtic had Jorge Cadete carried off after a dreadful foul by Stephane Henchoz. Cadete was replaced by Pierre van Hooijdonk, a surprise omission from the starting line-up.
Mackay was sent off in the 21st minute when he was shown a second yellow card for pushing Sven Kmetsch. Celtic's problems increased two minutes later when Karsten Baron scored a disputed goal for Hamburg.
Two minutes later, Celtic found themselves even further behind when Baron ran on to a pass from Markus Schupp and slid the ball past the Celtic goalkeeper Gordon Marshall.
Brian O'Neil saw his header cleared off the line in the 34th minute by Jakob Friis-Hansen and three minutes later Hughes was booked for fouling Andre Breitenreiter.
Celtic's luck was summed up when Paolo di Canio's shot hit the bar in the 40th minute and then, less than a minute later, Hughes was sent for a foul on Kmetsch, which led to ugly scenes between both sets of players in the centre circle.
The ugly scenes continued in the second half with Schupp being booked less than a minute after the restart for a foul on Van Hooijdonk.
Hamburg put paid to any lingering hopes of a Celtic recovery when Breitenreiter received an inch-perfect pass from Bernd Hollerbach to beat Marshall.
Even then, their was no end to the ill-feeling. Hamburg were reduced to 10 men in the 71st minute when Schupp was sent off for his second bookable offence, after fouling the Celtic substitute Morten Wieghorst.
