Wimbledon Diary: Jamie Delgado digs deep on 23rd appearance in a row at SW19

A good day for Jamie Delgado as he marked his record 23rd consecutive appearance at Wimbledon with one of his best victories, coming from two sets down in company with Gilles Muller of Luxembourg to beat Lu Yen-hsun and Divij Sharan. The 37-year-old Briton first played here as a junior in 1992. Only Virginia Wade (26 years) and Martina Navratilova (24) have been here more years in a row. The two grandes dames of the grass have rather more to show from it. Delgado's best is a boys' semi-final and third round in the doubles.

Venus the history woman

Venus Williams is another long-time attendee at Wimbledon and over 17 visits she has ventured beyond SW19, including to the Museum of London, a favourite of the diary's too and not just because you can dress up as a fireman. "I like history," said Venus. "I like the museums about the history of the city, like the Museum of London. Those kind of things intrigue me."

Paire happy with hasty exit

It was a perfect day for Benoît Paire. The Frenchman is not a fan of Wimbledon. "The atmosphere displeases me greatly," he said after his singles defeat by Lukas Rosol on Tuesday. "Simply, I hate Wimbledon and I'm happy to leave as soon as possible." And today he got his wish, losing in the doubles. Job done.

Did Cook slump start here?

A year ago Geoffrey Boycott and Alastair Cook shared the royal box, and a hug too. Today Geoff was back but there was no Cook, who perhaps has other things on his mind, not least that he hasn't scored an international century since that day on Centre Court.
