Wimbledon 2015: Jamie Murray reaches doubles semi-finals with Australian partner John Peers

Partnering Australia’s John Peers, in a pre-Ashes show of unity, Murray senior earned a place in the last four of the men’s doubles with a second impressive win in as many days.
While Murray has won the mixed doubles at Wimbledon, and reached the US Open final in that event, it is his first appearance in a grand slam men’s doubles semi-final. It is also Peers’ first.
Having beaten the holders, Vasek Pospisil and Jack Sock, in a five-set epic in the previous round, Murray and Peers, seeded 13, faced 8th-seeded Bruno Soares and Alexander Peya
Having taken the first set 6-4 the second went to a tie-break. After Brazilian Soares double-faulted on the first point Murray held his two serves. When Austrian Peya was also broken, after a lengthy rally that elicited oohs and aahs from the Court 2 crowd, Murray/Peers were 4-0 up. They ran out 7-3 winners.
The third set went with serve until the sixth game when a Peya error and Murray volley set up a breakpoint Peers converted to take a 4-2 lead. Peers then served out to secure a 6-4, 7-6, 6-3 victory.
They will play the winners of the match between Jonathan Erlich and Philipp Petzschner and No.2 seeds Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo. The top-seeded Bryan brothers, Bob and Mike, are in the other half of the draw.
Murray, who has been included in Britain’s Davis Cup team for their tie against France later this month, said, “We played well, we served well, got our returns in at the right time and were good value for our victory.”
