Came close to upsetting Federer in last year's final. Famed for possessing the fastest serve ever recorded - 155 mph - and believes he has improved his all-round game to complement his fierce forehand. A winner on the lawns at Queen's Club for the third year in a row.

Australia
Demonstrated by winning the title in 2002 that a fleet-footed, back-court game can triumph on the lawns, but was served off the court by the 6ft 10in Croatian Ivo Karlovic the following year. Lost to Federer in the quarter-finals last year.

The exciting 19-year-old from Mallorca, who defeated Federer in the French Open semi-finals en route to his triumph in Paris a fortnight ago, missed Wimbledon due to injury last year. Made his debut in 2003, reaching the third round.

The popular but enigmatic Australian Open champion is convinced that he cannot play well on grass, but has the skill and power to prove himself wrong. A quarter-finalist in 2001.

Britain
If there was only Henman Hill to climb, he would be a winner, but the nation's leading player is usually faced with a mountain of expectation. There may be less now that he has turned 30. Will do well to reach semi-finals for a fifth time.
8 NIKOLAI DAVYDENKO
Russia
Has not progressed beyond the first round in three appearances. Lost to Roddick in the Australian Open quarter-finals. Reached the French Open semi-finals.
9 SEBASTIEN GROSJEAN
France
Projected to meet Henman in the fourth round and beat him in the quarter-finals in 2003. Reached the last four again last year, losing to Federer.
