France's Nathalie Tauziat won her second tournament in three weeks today, beating Czech qualifier Kveta Hrdlickova in a straight sets final at the Sparkassen Cup in Leipzig, Germany.
The second-seeded Tauziat took advantage of the Czech's nervousness and fatigue in posting an easy 6-1, 6-3 victory at the $520,000 event.
Hrdlickova had played eight matches to fight her way into the final, including ousting her first Top 10 player when she upset France's Mary Pierce in the semifinals.
"I feel a little bit tired because all my matches have gone three seats," said Hrdlickova, 24, before the final.
Tauziat won her sixth career title, her fifth coming two weeks ago at the Moscow Open, when Hrdlickova hit three straight balls long to end the 72-minute match.
Hrdlickova, playing her first major final, shook off her early nerves to give Tauziat a tougher match in the second set.
But the Frenchwoman finally gained a decisive break at 5-3 to win the match and take home $80,000. Hrdlickova earned $40,000.
Tauziat lost last year's final to Steffi Graf, a five-time champion at the event before retiring this year.
