Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Golf has to be the sport most athletes play in their downtime but the greatest golfer of them all can't get enough tennis. Jack Nicklaus was back at Wimbledon. After being a guest in the royal box on Monday, he returned to take in the women's quarter-finals. Nicklaus shares the occasional round with Ivan Lendl, Andy Murray's coach, who once played 300 rounds in a year as he tried to make it as pro golfer but failed in his attempt to qualify for the 2008 US Open and went back to tennis.

Tweet and sour for defeated Li Na

Li Na's defeat by Agnieszka Radwanska may have been a notable victory for tennis Scrabble but it is a blow for the tournament's profile in the Far East. Li of China has a phenomenal social media following, as high as 20 million according to some, although 14 million is a more realistic figure. Whichever, it is still huge and without comparison among Britain's leading sportsmen and sportswomen. Andy Murray has around 1.6 million Twitter followers while Wayne Rooney can muster 6.6 million.

Heroic Flipper makes the splash

It was always going to be a day of celebration in the Flipkens household, no matter what happened on Centre Court. As Flipper, as Kirsten is known, enjoyed her first Grand Slam quarter-final her mother, Carry, marked her birthday with a seat on Centre Court. The two women are now famous Belgians, at least in Belgium, as their picture was on the front of two national newspapers.

Thailand's young man of letters

Spare a thought for the umpires and announcers on No 4 Court in the boys' singles this evening as Thailand's Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul strode out.

Weather watch

Staying overcast and dry all day, with chance of late sun. Maximum temp 20C.
