Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Andy Murray killed the downtime in his match by listening to Ed Sheeran.

Dealing with breaks in play is a feature of Wimbledon and Murray, who also turns to PlayStation, believes he's getting better at it: "This time I did a pretty good job but that hasn't always been the case."

Williams' kid stays in the picture

Richard Williams has coached his daughters from the very beginning – his mantra of "run for every ball" was practised relentlessly by Serena in her win over Petra Kvitova yesterday – but he was a father before his coaching duties and the dad in him came out as Serena sealed her victory over the champion. He whipped out a large camera and began snapping his youngest daughter's moment of triumph.

Kvitova's father appears all cried out

The other side of the players' box on Centre Court was less busy for the Williams v Kvitova match. Last year Kvitova's father had greeted her Wimbledon triumph with floods of tears. Yesterday he watched David Ferrer win the first match on Centre, and then made himself scarce when his daughter appeared – and lost.
