Murray ready to put troubles aside
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Andy Murray believes he is ready to put behind him both his disappointing results of the last month and the off-court distractions that have contributed to his loss of form. Since reaching the Australian Open final Murray has made early exits from three tournaments and been caught up in controversies concerning his tactics in Dubai, his Davis Cup career and the future direction of the Lawn Tennis Association.
As he prepared for his first match here today at the Monte-Carlo Masters against Philipp Kohlschreiber, Murray admitted that he "wasn't myself at all" at his most recent tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami.
"Things off the court can affect you," he said. "I think it was a combination of a lot of things. You can be subconsciously annoyed or upset and you need to make sure you've got a clear head. I can't say 100 per cent I'm going to be great this week, but I feel fine. I've just got to play well in the matches, fight hard and compete."
