Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Andy Murray and Juan Ignacio Chela completed only one game upon the resumption of their French Open second-round match today before rain forced the players off court.
World number four Murray returned to Court One this afternoon 6-2 3-3 up overnight on Chela after their contest was suspended in fading light at around 9.30pm last night following the first wet day at Roland Garros.
Chela had enough time this afternoon to hold serve and go 4-3 up in the second set and Murray just enough to get to 15-0 in game eight before the weather turned.
With the first four and a half hours of today's play wiped out, Murray was again made to wait before taking to the court.
He and Chela eventually resumed at 5.06pm local time, both picking up where they had left off with a succession of long rallies.
Murray got to deuce on his opponent's serve trying to reclaim the break he had surrendered in the final game last night.
But the Argentinian held before a heavy shower saw play suspended just seven minutes in.
