From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The world No 1, who has now won 15 straight matches and 36 of her last 37, beat Russia's Anastasia Myskina, seeded six, 6-3 6-2.
The victory gave her a WTA Tour-leading eight tournament wins this season, bettering the seven of her sister Venus. She also became the first No 1 player to win at Leipzig since Steffi Graf in 1993.
Spain's Juan Carlos Ferrero survived a mid-match slump to defeat his compatriot Carlos Moya 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 yesterday in the final of the Salem Hong Kong Open.
The world No 6 and second-seed Ferrero won only his second ATP title this year, fighting back to win a match dominated by baseline rallies. He said: "It was very important to win here.
"Not only will it boost my confidence, but now I can tell people back home that we Spanish players can win on hard courts, too. We have been regarded only as clay court specialists, but the fact that Carlos and I were in the final will disprove it."
Ferrero needed two service breaks in the seventh game to win the first set, while Moya took the second, breaking his opponent's service three times.
However, Ferrero finished strongly and wrapped up the match with an ace.
