Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.David Ferrer swept aside Juan Martin del Potro and booked himself a quarter-final assignment against Andy Murray with a routine win in the fourth round at Wimbledon today.
The Spanish seventh seed made light work of his Argentinian opponent under the roof on Centre Court to win 6-3 6-2 6-3 and set up his first appearance in the last eight at Wimbledon.
Ferrer held the upper hand throughout the first set as Del Potro struggled to find his range, eventually breaking the ninth seed in the fourth game.
Del Potro slipped and fell awkwardly two games later, with the trainer called on to treat a left knee problem before Ferrer easily wrapped up the first set.
The Spaniard quickly moved into a two-set lead with back-to-back breaks in the fifth and seventh games as 2009 US Open champion Del Porto made several unforced errors.
The third set went on serve until the seventh game when Ferrer broke again before serving to love to take a 5-3 lead.
The French Open semi-finalist then broke Del Potro a fifth time to clinch victory, with the Argentinian's challenge on the final point proving fruitless.
After the victory, Ferrer said: "I played a really good match.
"I am trying to improve every day and of course, against these opponents, it's difficult to beat them.
"It's going to be very difficult to beat Andy on this surface but I will try to do my best and play like I did today."
