Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Katie O'Brien, however, has avoided the need to qualify by breaking into the world's top 100. If the world No 87 defeats Austria's Patricia Mayr (No 90) she could face Jelena Jankovic (No 8).
Sisters may meet
Serena Williams, the defending champion, could face her sister Venus in the semi-finals. Dinara Safina and Svetlana Kuznetsova are top seeds in a tougher bottom half of the draw, where Justine Henin's Grand Slam comeback could see her play fellow Belgian Kim Clijsters in the quarter-finals.
British pair in final
Sydney international Britain's Ross Hutchins and his Australian partner, Jordan Kerr, reached the doubles final at the Sydney International with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Simon Aspelin and Paul Hanley. They were due to meet Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic in today's final.
