Andy Murray, the three-time finalist, is looking to lift his first Australian Open trophy. However, for players from outside the top four the draw is never favourable.

Murray, currently ranked 6th might have to face players like Grigor Dimitrov, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal en route to the potential final against Novak Djokovic. All of which, have stopped his Grand Slam trophy runs in the past.

Murray began his campaign with a win over former junior world no. 1 Yuki Bhambri 6-3, 6-4, 7-6.

He will now face Marinko ‘Mad Dog’ Matosevic of Australia, who by defeating Alexander Kudryavtsev in the first round recorded his first ever hometown win.

Murray has the upper hand going into the game, not only because of his experience and a favourable head to head (2:0) record, but also because of an easier first-round encounter.

Matosevic, ranked 81st, needed five sets (6-4, 6-7, 6-4, 5-7, 3-6) and three and a half hours to send Kudryavtsev packing.

In the next round the winner of this match will face either Joao Sousa or Marin Klizan.
