Britain's Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski both moved into the semi-finals of tournaments on opposite sides of the globe yesterday.

Henman's remarkable season continued with a convincing straight-sets victory over Karol Kucera of Switzerland in the quarter-finals of the Lyon Grand Prix. The British No 1 will now meet the French Open champion, Yevgeny Kafelnikov, in the semi-final, the man he memorably beat in the first round at Wimbledon this year. Kafelnikov defeated Sweden's Magnus Gustafsson 5-7, 7-5, 6-3.

Henman was tested early on by Kucera but, after winning the first set on a tie-break (8-6), he moved with some comfort to complete a 7-6, 6- 2 victory.

Rusedski fired three straight aces in the final game to close out a 7- 6, 6-2 win over Russia's Andrei Olhovskiy in the Singapore Open. He will now play the world No 2, Michael Chang, in the semi-finals.
