Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Graf dominated against the world No 5, ending a short-lived rally by the Czech by breaking her serve to take a 4-3 lead in the second set. In the final Graf will play Arantxa Sanchez Vicario, the defending champion, who prevented an all- German final by beating Sabine Hack 6-1 6-1. In Madrid, the two most successful male clay-court players will meet in today's final. Spain's Sergi Bruguera, the French Open champion, advanced with a 7-6 6-2 semi-final win over his compatriot, Alex Corretja. Austria's Thomas Muster, who since 1990 has won more clay-court title than any other man - 15, beat Jaime Yzaga, of Peru, 6-0 5-7 6-3. Bruguera is the second most successful with 10.
