Britain have won the World Under-14 Team Championship in Japan, defeating Germany 3-0 in the final, after victories against Croatia and Australia. Mark Hilton and Simon Dickson won their singles matches, and Dickson then partnered Alan Mackin in the doubles. Hilton defeated Phillip Hammer, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, Dickson beat Boris Bachert, 7-5, 6-2, and Dickson and Mackin overcame Bachert and Reiner Nevrohr, 7-5, 6-1. Richard Lewis, the director of national training, was "absolutely delighted" with the result. "It's very significant that we can beat the likes of Australia and Germany at this level 3-0," he said.

The 17-year-old Martin Lee, from Sussex, lost to Germany's Nicklas Kiefer 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the Canadian Junior Championships.
