Jim Courier ended a 17-month wait for a tournament victory when he beat Arnaud Boetsch, of France, 6-2, 7-5 in the final of the Australian Hardcourt Championship in Adelaide yesterday. The third-seeded American won the 15th singles title of his ca reer by overpowering the unseeded Frenchman in 95 minutes with a clubbing forehand.

Australian men's hardcourt tennis championship (Adelaide) Final: J Courier (US) bt A Boetsch (Fra) 6-2 7-5. Doubles final: Courier/P Rafter (Aus) bt B Black (Zim)/G Connell (Can) 7-6 (7-3), 6-4.

HOPMAN CUP final (Perth, Australia): Germany bt Ukraine 3-0. Women's singles (German names first): A Huber bt N Medvedeva 6-4 3-6 6-4. Men's singles: B Becker bt A Medvedev 6-3 6-7 6-3. Mixed doubles: Ukraine forfeited when Medvedev withdrew with a pulled hamstring.

Qatar Open men's championship (Doha) Final: S Edberg (Swe) bt M Larsson (Swe) 7-6 (7-4) 6-1. Doubles final: Edberg/Larsson bt A Olhovsky (Rus)/J Siemerink (Neth) 7-6 (7-5) 6-2.
