Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Devon Malcolm has a month to prove his fitness for England's tour of South Africa after undergoing surgery this week. The 32-year-old fast bowler was admitted to hospital for a keyhole operation on the right knee that gave way in the West Indies two winters ago.
"Devon had a small cartilage tear but he will be fit for the tour provided there are no complications," Reg Taylor, the Derbyshire secretary, said.
There were no such problems for Dominic Cork who, with his 7 for 61, reached 90 wickets for the season as Derbyshire bowled out Lancashire for 155 at Derby.
Kim Barnett's reign as captain could end with a century. He is unbeaten on 80 as his side progressed to 151 for 2, a lead of 273.
Nottinghamshire's parlous situation could have been worse but for a last- wicket stand of 54 between Andy Pick and Dave Pennett. Replying to Durham's 424 - which won them maximum batting points for the first time this season - they were 29 for 5 before recovering to 159 for 9.
Chris Silverwood dismissed Graham Gooch and Mark Waugh in three deliveries as Essex struggled to add to their first-innings lead of four. They finished on 62 for 5. Yorkshire's 309 was mainly due to 98 from David Byas and a maiden first-class half-century from Richard Kettleborough. Entry at Chelmsford today is free.
