Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Stan Collymore, the unsettled Nottingham Forest striker who has attracted the interest of Juventus and Internazionale along with a crop of Premiership clubs, has told his manager, Frank Clark, that he would not be tempted by a summer move to Serie A should he decide to leave the club.
Paul Gascoigne, expected to play again next week after a year out recovering from a broken leg, may have to wait a little longer. Lazio will not be pressured in to picking him, the club's coach, Zdenek Zeman, said yesterday. "I'm not going to put him into a game just to keep people happy. Gascoigne will play when I feel he's capable of giving something to the team."
Sunderland have escaped the points deduction that would have increased the threat of the club being relegated to the Second Division. Instead, a Football League commission fined them £2,500 for fielding an unregistered player, Dominic Matteo, on loan from Liverpool, in last week's defeat at Barnsley.
The Ipswich captain, John Wark, will miss three matches after referee Paul Durkin yesterday declined to reverse a red card decision. Wark was sent off during a 3-0 defeat at Norwich.
Eddie May has returned as Cardiff City's manager after being sacked from the post four months ago. He resumes control at the struggling Second Division club following Terry Yorath's resignation on Thursday.
