Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

This year's Fullers Head of the River Fours has again been oversubscribed with an entry of 620 crews. Tomorrow, with the first category off at 9.45am, the maximum number of 500 crews will row the 4 1/4 miles from Mortlake to Putney on the Tideway of the River Thames. Britain's gold medallists at the World Championships are all taking part. Among them, Steve Redgrave and Matthew Pinsent, the coxless pairs champions, will be easy to recognise, forming half of Leander II, entry No 23 and a coxless four. It will take 1 1/2 hours to get all the crews away and the fastest competitiors will cover the course in around 18 minutes.

Where to watch: The Tideway is easily accessible by public transport. Vantage points: Barnes Railway Bridge and Chiswick Bridge at the start (Waterloo BR to Mortlake); Dukes Meadow at Chiswick; Hammersmith Bridge (Piccadilly or District underground lines to Hammersmith Bridge); Bishop's Park (Fulham bank); Fulham Park; At the finish, Putney Bridge (Waterloo BR to Putney or District Line to Putney Bridge).
