Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The British championships for rhythmic gymnastics at Milton Keynes this weekend have much to offer in colour and talent. Five gymnasts, competing in the junior section, will be keen to perform well to confirm their inclusion in Britain's squad for the European junior championships in Bucharest this May. Leading this group is Natalie Moutia, from London, whose form is good enough to convert third place last year to a gold medal this time. Regarded as the most talented British rhythmic gymnast, Debbie Southwick contests the senior section. The 16-year-old from Merseyside goes to Moscow later this month to attempt to qualify for the European Cup in Malaga in June, a tournament for the top 16 gymnasts in Europe.

How to get there: Bletchley Leisure Centre, Princes Street, Bletchley, Milton Keynes. Admission: pounds 3 adults, pounds 2 children under- 16/OAPs. Junior overall championships start at 11am, followed by the seniors at 3.30pm tomorrow. On Sunday, the individual apparatus finals begin at 2pm. (Tel: 0908-377251).
