Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The sixth and final round, sponsored by Gore-Tex, of the Climbing World Cup in Birmingham this weekend features a 25-metre artificial wall, including a thrilling overhang, as the main obstacle. More than 150 climbers from 20 countries compete, demonstrating the international interest in this sport. In the men's event, Francois Legrand, of France, looks set to complete three wins in a row and he has an unassailable points lead in this year's series. Robyn Erbesfield, from the United States, leads the women's event by 60pts, but Isabelle Patissier, of France, who is in second place overall, could reverse the positions if she wins and her American rival finishes down the field.
How to get there: National Indoor Arena, King Edward's Road, Birmingham City Centre. Nearest railway station: New Street. Admission: today (competition 5.30-8pm) pounds 3; tomorrow (10am-7pm) pounds 7; Sunday (10am-4pm) pounds 10. Weekender ticket pounds 12. (Tel: 021-633 3333).
