Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

THE WEATHER forecast this week is kinder than the Lord's wicket can be at times, but even so the draw looks the best bet in the second Test, which starts on Thursday.

The first Test ended on Saturday, but it is unlikely the Lords' groundstaff will produce a wicket as tricky as the one at Edgbaston. With New Zealand having found a bit of batting form of late, a stalemate could be on the cards against England's relatively solid batting line-up.

SECOND TEST

C H L S T

England 4-5 evens 10-11 11-10 4-5

Draw 6-4 6-4 6-4 6-4 13-8

New Zealand 5-1 7-2 4-1 10-3 9-2

Over-round 112 112 112 111 112

Over-round at best prices (in bold): 102.

n Suggested bet: pounds 1 on England to draw with New Zealand at 13-8 with the Tote).
