Your support makes all the difference.The Green Bay Packers begin their defence of the NFL championship this evening when they entertain bitter rivals, the Chicago Bears, and while it is rare for favourites to make appeal to punters when the bookies have had months to compile their prices, it is impossible to get away from the Pack at the 3-1 offered by Ladbrokes to win back-to-back Superbowls.
It may be nothing like the 7-1 at which the Packers were tipped here 12 months ago, but Green Bay have so much going for them that even 3-1 is a price which punters must not miss. Their two most obvious rivals, Dallas and San Francisco, are fading thanks to age and indiscipline, while the Carolina Panthers, beaten in the NFC Championship game last season, start without thier inspirational quarterback, Kerry Collins.
Green Bay's schedule is hardly testing by the usual standards of defending champions, rating 13th on the NFL's official list, which assesses how many teams with a winning record last season each side will play this time around.
At home, where the Pack have proved virtually unbeatable in recent years, they can win eight from eight (including an overdue defeat of the Cowboys), and could afford perhaps three defeats on the road to secure home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
