Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

NO Schmeichel, no Pallister, Johnsen and Phil Neville doubtful and Giggs, their best player, a sheer gamble in terms of fitness. Manchester United face an uphill task as they try to bounce back from Saturday's Arsenal defeat against Monaco in the second leg of their European Cup quarter final at Old Trafford on Wednesday. But, despite their problems, United still have the ammunition to beat Monaco, hammered 3-1 by Auxerre on Friday.

Dynamo Kiev, after their brilliant 1-1 draw in Turin, have, in strikers Rebrov and Shevchenko, the ammunition to kick Juventus out of the European Cup in their quarter-final second leg in Kiev, while Bayer Leverkusen, held 1-1 at home by MSV Duisburg on Friday, have little chance at Real Madrid.

Aston Villa can beat ante-post selection Atletico Madrid without necessarily reaching the semi-finals in the second leg of their Uefa Cup quarter- final at Villa Park tomorrow. Atletico, 1-0 winners at home, would settle for a 2-1 or 3-2 defeat . Similarly Ajax should beat Spartak Moscow away without perhaps reaching the semis. 3-1 winners in Amsterdam, Spartak can afford to lose 2-0.

On Thursday, Real Betis, beaten 2-1 at home, can avenge that defeat by beating Chelsea in the second leg of their Cup Winners' Cup quarter-final at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea can afford to lose 1-0.
