Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Managerial switches pay early dividends in football and Christian Gross's Tottenham will surely make short work of Crystal Palace at White Hart Lane this evening. Palace, again without Attilo Lombardo tonight, had failed dismally to defend a two-goal lead and looked on their way to defeat against West Ham when the lights went out at Upton Park in their last game.

Aston Villa, who beat struggling Everton 2-1 at home on Saturday, will find life harder against Steaua Bucharest, third in the Romanian League, in the first leg of their third round Uefa Cup tie in Bucharest tomorrow, while the Uefa Cup favourites Atletico Madrid - tipped here at 10-1 when the competition started and 3-1 winners at home to Valencia on Saturday - can beat Croatia Zagreb away in their first leg tie.

Newcastle United, who ended Southampton's burst of form with a 2-1 victory at St James' Park on Saturday, have little hope of making the quarter- finals of the European Cup but still go into Wednesday's game in Barcelona with more to play for than their hosts. Barcelona, who lost 1-0 at Oviedo on Saturday and were beaten 3-2 at St James' Park, cannot now reach the knock-out stage.

Manchester United, who dispatched Wimbledon 5-2 at Selhurst Park on Saturday, should annihilate Kosice - they beat them 3-0 away - at Old Trafford United in the Champions' League on Thursday, while the defending champions Borussia Dortmund, who won 3-1 at Hamburg on Friday, should beat Galatasary at home.
