Boris Becker has given Pete Sampras his wild card for the CA Trophy which starts on Monday in Vienna. Becker, a winner in Vienna two years ago, told organisers he had passed on his wild card for "sporting reasons".
Jana Novotna, the Wimbledon champion, twisted her back in a match against Serena Williams yesterday and had to retire from the Porsche Grand Prix in Germany. Novotna hurt her back at the end of the second set. She tried to play on but pulled out three games later.
