ALEXANDER POPOV, of Russia, set a men's 50 metres freestyle short- course world record of 21.50sec at a World Cup meeting in Desenzano, Italy, yesterday, beating the previous record of 21.60 set by Britain's Mark Foster at Sheffield, in February last year.
