Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Leeds United must wait until early next week before learning where they will play their Uefa Cup first round, second leg tie against the Yugoslav side Partizan Belgrade. Following a meeting between Leeds chairman Peter Ridsdale, the Football Association, the Foreign Office and Uefa yesterday, it was understood European football's governing body would make a ruling on where Leeds would play the tie. Moscow is still considered as the favoured alternative venue.
Kilmarnock's Uefa Cup first-round game with Kaiserslauten of the German Bundesliga will be shown live on BBC2 Scotland. The Ayrshire club have already banked around pounds 500,000 from selling the rights to the home leg to German television and are now set to benefit from increased exposure from the first match on 16 September.
Jurgen Seedorf, the 18-year-old brother of Real Madrid's Dutch international midfielder Clarence, has been called up to train with the Spanish club's first team. He was drafted in from the youth team on Thursday after several players were selected for weekend international duty.
